About

The Mantegna Family Foundation was established by actor Joe Mantegna and his wife Arlene to award funds for the furtherment of services to enable people with disabilities, and their families, to live fully enriched, independent, and active lives as contributing members of their community.

Adults with Disabilities

Joe and Arlene’s oldest daughter Mia was diagnosed with autism in 1990 when there was little known about the condition. Services and treatments were still in the developing stages. Now as an adult Mia, like most adults living with autism, work hard every day to overcome challenges for living an adult life.

“Much of the focus on disabilities is regarding children, but they’re only children for a fraction of their life. What about their next 60 years?”

Joe Mantegna

Founder

With the goal of enabling adults with physical or mental disabilities to achieve a greater independence and self-sufficiency the foundation hopes to raise awareness, increase understanding, and help provide a path to a more inclusive part of society for adults with disabilities.

The foundation also honors our nations veterans.

The cost of war is greater than we can imagine, and our veterans have paid that price many times over. Countless have returned from combat with severe mental and physical challenges making day to day chores that we take for granted, an insurmountable task. According to a report published by the United States Department of Veterans Affairs in 2016, which analyzed 55 million veterans' records from 1979 to 2014, the current analysis indicates that an average of 20 veterans die from suicide per day. Some lack access to proper mental health treatment and others lack the support of family or community. Working in conjunction with other nonprofit organizations, The Mantegna Family Foundation seeks to identify and help those individuals who are at the greatest risk.

“We owe our very freedom to our veterans, lending a helping hand is the least we can do.”
